100 Years of Memories

Here is a Capitol Memory from the lovely Marguerite Burke, who is turning 102 years old this July!

Marguerite Burke, nee Fournier, was 19 years old when she worked at C.H. Smith’s in 1940. Smith’s was the largest Department Store in Windsor at the time, located on the corner of Ouellette Avenue and Pitt Street.

While working at Smith’s, she hand-sewed the red velvet drapes with gold fringe that hung inside the Capitol Theatre Pentastar Playhouse. Marguerite worked alone on this project and finished it in just two days.

Marguerite is one of Windsor’s Centenarians and she turns 102 this July 2023!
