JOB TITLE: Executive Director

JOB SUMMARY:

As the strategic and operational leader, the Executive Director will work in close collaboration with the WSO’s Music Director and Board of Directors to lead the WSO into its next period of growth by building and maintaining its strategic partnerships with funders, donors, patrons, City business leaders, educational organizations and other cultural institutions while maintaining prudent fiscal management of operating expenses. With a focus on artistic excellence and financial stability the Executive Director will continue to expand the recognition and relevance of the WSO in the community.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Reporting to the Board of Directors, supporting and supported by the Music Director, the Executive Director is responsible for the operations and administration of the WSO including:
Strategy and Visionary Leadership, in conjunction with the Music Director and under the direction of the Board of Directors.

Fundraising – Identifies, cultivates and secures new funding sources while nurturing and maintaining existing strategic partnerships and relationships.

Financial and Risk Management – Directs the financial and business operations of the organization, including financial planning, control and reporting.

Marketing & Communications – Oversees and encourages all marketing and communication activities, and acts as a spokesperson for the WSO.

Human Resource Management/Orchestra and Administration – Creates an environment to stimulate employee morale and productivity. In concert with Board volunteers, negotiates the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the musicians’ representatives of the WSO. Approves and signs all contracts entered into by the WSO.

Capitol Theatre – Ensures the Capitol Theatre fulfills its role as a cultural hub for the larger arts community and the primary residence of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. Oversees the staff charged with all aspects of Theatre management and ensures a healthy partnership with the City of Windsor, owners of the Theatre.

Community Outreach & Education – Ensures that Education and Community Outreach programs align with the strategic goals of the WSO and flourish in the community with the knowledge and support of community stakeholders, funders and donors.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

A minimum of 5 years of successful senior leadership/executive experience.

  • BA or B.Comm or equivalent.
  • Proven success in:
    • Fundraising, including grant writing.
    • creating, presenting and delivering a long-range strategic plan and annual operating plans.
  • Proven ability to recruit, hire, evaluate, and inspire qualified staff.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Understanding of, and management experience in, a unionized environment is an asset.

Salary Range: $75K to $90K. Benefits package available.
