Opening Night at the Capitol Theatre

Two magazine clippings from the opening week of the Capitol Theatre. The headline of the first clipping reads "Loew's Opens Today at 1pm. First Program; WM. S. Hart in "The Testing Block", Buster Keaton in "One Week"." The headline of the second clipping reads "Crowds Unable to Gain Admission to Loew Premiere, Mayor Winter Dedicates Palatial New Theatre to Border Patrons". This is followed by an excerpt from the Loew's Theatre opening weekend review, which was published on December 31, 1920. "Following the presentation by the mayor, three acts of vaudeville were given, all of which found favor with the huge audience, which numbered over 2,000 persons. Lt. Fernard Theiton, who was decorated with the Croix de Guerre by the French government while in the aviation services as a bomber, gave a remarkable exhibition of sharp shooting, while Harry Lee, a singing comedian, kept the house in an uproar by his clever work. The Royal Italian Five played and sang Italian songs. Besides the vaudeville, Wm. S. Hart in “The Testing Block” a Buster Keaton comedy, pictorial and news reviews were shown on screen."
