JOB TITLE: IN-HOUSE THEATRE TECHNICAN

JOB SUMMARY: The In-House Theatre Technician executes the technical aspects of events as a staff representative of the Capitol Theatre, both independently and under the direction of the Technical Director. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of theatrical equipment under the supervision of (and occasionally in the absence of) the Technical Director. Communicates with External Renters and internally within the Windsor Symphony Orchestra to ensure smooth operation of events and activities as a technical representative of the Capitol Theatre. Implement backstage rules and safety regulations of the theatre, in accordance with federal and provincial legislation and training protocols. Participates on and occasionally oversees stage crews, including members of local theatre technician union (I.A.T.S.E). This position requires a variable work schedule, including most evenings and weekends. Reports to Capitol Theatre Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Independently execute a variety of events including but not limited to orchestral concerts, rock shows, theatrical and dance performances, work in collaboration with film presenters, and all Capitol renters.

  • Act as primary Theatre representative/proxy when Technical Director is not on site.
  • Supervise tech crews: coordinate load-ins; handle conflicts that that may arise; organize the strike and clean-up for productions.
  • Ensure tech crew, staff, production leads, volunteers, and performers, are following health and safety legislation and theatre protocol including WHMIS, At Heights Training, etc
  • Assist in ongoing maintenance of the lighting, audio, projection, and rigging systems.
  • Maintain and organize backstage and other technical areas.
  • Be on call to handle any emergencies that may arise during rental or maintenance periods.
  • Attend weekly staff and production meetings as needed.
  • Attend event preparation meetings with External Renters as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with theatre lighting, sound, rigging, stage, media, projection, and appliances
  • Familiarity with:
    • Etc Ion/Etc Eos lighting consoles
    • Allen and Heath audio consoles
    • Digico audio consoles
    • Presonus Studio Live 32 audio consoles
    • Qlab
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Basic equipment maintenance skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Valid Ontario Drivers’ License

ASSETS (or willing to obtain)

  • First Aid Certification
  • Working at Heights certification
  • Powered and elevated work platforms certification

LOCATION OF WORK: Primarily the Capitol Theatre, 121 University Ave W., Windsor ON

TERM OF AGREEMENT:

Part-time, average 24 hours per week (hours may vary based on event schedule).
Overtime Hours exceeding 24H per week will be given in time off in lieu.
Salary: Starting at $25,000 with 2 weeks vacation.
