PROGRAM
ELGAR: Serenade for String Orchestra
PRICE: Andante Moderato for String Orchestra
WAGNER: Siegfried Idyll

What’s something interesting about this concert?

  • Edward Elgar’s Serenade for Strings was composed during a period of personal introspection and emotional strain. In the early 1890s, Elgar was not yet a household name, and he was struggling to gain recognition and find a stable place in the competitive world of music.
  • Florence Price was one of the first African American women to gain recognition as a classical composer. The Andante moderato is a perfect example of her beautiful orchestral writing.
  • The Siegfried Idyll was composed by Richard Wagner as a personal gift for his wife, Cosima, in 1870. It was intended as a celebration of the birth of their son, Siegfried, and was originally performed as a private birthday present for Cosima on Christmas morning.

This concert is 60 minutes. No intermission.
Ticket includes a complimentary tea and coffee.
