Concertmaster Lillian Scheirich, along with the WSO, brings to life the works of WijeratneBoccherini, and José Evangelista, showcasing a diverse range of styles and emotions. From Wijeratne’s A Letter from the After-life, inspired by a quatrain from The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám, to the joy of Boccherini, and to Evangelista’s exploration of Spanish folk melodies, this concert explores the past, present, and afterlives of musicians around the world.

What’s something interesting about this concert? 

  • Lillian Scheirich has been concertmaster with the WSO since 1990. She is dedicated to music education and outreach and actively participates in community programs aimed at fostering a love for music among younger generations.
  • Wijeratne’s A Letter from the Afterlife presents a reflection on life beyond death, conveying a message of contemplation, hope, and introspection.
  • Boccherini had a strong attachment to his family, and his compositions often had a deeply personal touch, drawing on his love for the cello, his familial bonds, and his connection to his Spanish home.
  • Evangelista, originally from Spain, was inspired by the vibrant and rhythmic patterns of Spanish folk music.

This concert is 60 minutes. No intermission.
