University Fall Ensemble Concert

Friday, November 23, 2018

Time: 7:30 PM

Price: $5 – $20

University of Windsor Wind Ensemble

Dr. Nicholas Papador, director

Mr. Matt Lepain, assistant conductor

The University of Windsor Wind Ensemble’s fall concert explores themes of both war and sonic representations of conflict.  The program features Daniel Bukvich’s Symphony No. 1 “In Memoriam Dresden – 1945” paired with Gustav Holst’s own wind version of “Mars – The Bringer of War” from The Planets.  In contrast, the ensemble will perform energetic and virtuosic works such as a Samuel Hazo’s “Ride” and David Holsinger’s “Havendance.”  The concert will also feature some hidden gems in the wind repertory such as Percy Grainger’s “The Immovable Do” and University of Windsor Professor Emeritus Jen Hansen’s “Dialogues.”

The University of Wind Ensemble’s consistently exciting and musical interpretations of standard and contemporary works for large and chamber wind/percussion ensembles recently earned the group the honour of serving as the performers for the Canadian Music Centre’s 2018 composer reading session of new works for concert band.
