Arts Collective Theatre presents:
Set in Depression-era Times Square, Guys and Dolls is about a couple of big city gamblers and the women who love them. It tells the overlapping stories of high-roller Sky Masterson, who falls in love with mission worker Sarah Brown, and lovable rapscallion Nathan Detroit, engaged for 14 years to Miss Adelaide, a headliner at the Hot Box Club. Nathan runs a famous floating crap game, and an ongoing plot line involves his quest for a safe place for the game as Adelaide continues her quest to convince him to marry her. Meanwhile, Sarah, mistakenly believing that Sky set up an illegal game at the mission, tries to fight her affection for the charismatic crapshooter.
Guys and Dolls is a colourful comedy that has been called the perfect musical by generations of theatre lovers. The show features musical theatre standards such as “Luck be a Lady” and “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat”. This celebrated show has had so many great revivals, from the 1976 all Black Motown inspired revival, to the 1992 Broadway revival starring Nathan Lane as Nathan Detroit. This show will never get old. Guys and Dolls will be Directed by Chris Rabideau, Musical Direction by internationally renowned composer Ian Smith, with choreography by Tiffany Chan, the same team who brought West Side Story to the stage, which was called “one of the big must-see musicals of the Windsor theatre” by 519 Magazine. ACT’s production will be a new, exciting, and colourful revival of an audience favourite.
